Frequently Asked Questions

What causes matting?
Greasy skin and coat combined with natural shedding causes matting.  Once a small tangle or mat forms, it grows very quickly.  The only real defense against tangles and mats is regular bathing and drying done by a professional cat groomer who truly knows what they are doing.

Do cats like getting a bath?
Contrary to popular belief, most cats do not mind being bathed.  In fact, many are very calm during the bathing process and seem to find it relaxing.  We use special techniques to introduce a cat to the bathing process each time, until we can see that they are used to it.  We know from experience that cat owners report they have a very happy cat after it returns home from a day at the spa.

Will it hurt my cat to be groomed?
It can hurt your cat to NOT be groomed.  Cats that are not groomed are prone to serious matting problems, skin conditions, painful ingrown nails, and a variety of other problems that, if left unattended, can cause irreversible damage or even death.

A cat that is groomed regularly will not suffer from such problems.  The groomer is handling the cat on a regular basis and looking over every inch of its body during each visit, health issues that may arise can be found early on, and the likelihood of effective intervention is increased.

What are the benefits to having my cat professionally groomed?
The main benefit is having a happier, healthier cat that does not suffer from any of the painful and potentially life-threatening problems already mentioned.  In addition, you will benefit as regular grooming cuts down on shedding, eliminates hairballs, reduces allergy problems, and helps promote a cleaner environment as well as a cleaner cat.  The best part is, you don’t have to do any of the grooming yourself! Leave that up to us!

Will you sedate my cat?
We do not sedate cats.  In reality, very few cats truly do need any sort of sedative in order to be groomed.  We handle each cat in such a way that the need for drugs of any kind rarely happens.  If we do think your cat would best be served by receiving medication, we will refer you to your veterinarian for a mild sedative that can be administered prior to the grooming appointment.

How do I book an appointment?
You can book an appointment by using the online booking system.  This can be reached by clicking one of the 'Book Meow' boxes from the 'Services' page.

How do I pay for a groom?
Card payment or cash is accepted.

What if I need to cancel my appointment?
Once you have booked an appointment with us it means that we have reserved time in our schedule exclusively for you.  Cancellations or reschedules giving less than 48 hour notice will result in a charge equal to 50% of the grooming price. No Shows & cancellations within 24 hrs of the appointment will be charged 100% of the booking.

Can you de-matt my cat?
We can shave out the mats. The animal welfare act stipulates it is an offense to cause animals pain or discomfort and we reserve the right to remove coat if we feel this is the case.  Any shaved areas take 4 to 6 months  to grow back.  If the tail is shaved this can take upto 12 months.  Sometimes the guard hairs (longer lengths) grow back before the undercoat (short hairs) making the coat look strange.

When should my kitten have its first session?
We advise you to start your kitten with a bath a week after the final vaccinations. Your kitten can get used to the sights and smells of the salon and settle in from an early age.

What should I bring?
Bring your cat in a secure carrier. Please ensure that you inform us of any special needs, ailments, problems, ongoing veterinary treatments, so that we can ensure the comfort of your cat at all times – enabling us to avoid any sensitive areas, supporting any injured or tired limbs etc.

What equipment do I need at home?
You will need a comb or a de-shedding tool.  Depending on the coat they may need a daily brush, or every few days or on a weekly basis, removing knots and debris from the coat.

My cat can be aggressive; can he still be groomed?
We can usually tell when we initially see your cat in person whether or not it can be safely handled.  We ask that you inform us if your cat has a history of being aggressive or biting/scratching so that we are prepared and can take precautions.  Keeping an animal calm is part and parcel of a groomer’s experience, knowing how to handle your cat will solve 99% of problems.  Muzzles will be used if required.  We reserve the right to stop a groom at any stage where we feel there is danger to us or your cat.

Should I feed my cat before I bring them for grooming?
You may feed your cat a small amount as this can keep them comfortable during the grooming. Please do not overfeed.

Can I stay with my cat?
Our liability insurance does not cover owners to be present during a grooming session.  We would be happy to show you our groom room.

What if my cat has fleas?
If your cat has a flea infestation on arrival I will reschedule your appointment for you to have the fleas treated before your return. I cannot take any chances that other cat's in my care will get fleas. If I uncover fleas during a groom which were not visible on first inspection. I also take measures to ensure that my salon environment is flea free.  A surcharge of £15 will be added to the final cost of the groom to bomb the room and deep clean.
